The Characteristics Of A Successful Online Student

There is a study from Columbia University’s Community College Resource Center that dives into who is taking online courses, what they’re taking them for, how they’re performing, and what type of students do best with online learning. It’s a detailed look at the current state of online learning and is, to me, quite fascinating.

There’s a handy infographic that was just built to help figure out the vast amount of data found by the report. It looked at 500,000 courses, 40,000 students, and a few dozen community colleges. The results are detailed below:

The online subject that I would have expected to be the most often taken would be computer science. I was very surprised to see it near the bottom of the chart. I wonder why that is?

Being a current enrollee in online courses, I can honestly agree that the quality of the courses need much improvement. There are some that are nothing more than read a book and take some tests. I could have done that with a correspondence course back in the 1960′s.
