The Best Taco Stops at SXSWedu

It’s a rainy day here in Austin — and by that I mean, I think I just saw my neighbor floating down the street on his couch cushions. But to the devoted — and soaked — attendees of SXSWedu, which runs from March 9th through 12th this year, rain is just that funny thing that happened on the way to the Convention Center.

As Amanda Ronan explored last week in her post, How to Make the Most of SXSWedu 2015, this year’s conference promises to explore the most pressing issues in education today, including:

  • Educational access and equity
  • Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)
  • Integrated, individualized and cloud-based learning
  • Protecting student privacy in the age of big data
  • The creative potential of the Maker movement (and LEGOs and project-based learning and so much more)
  • All of the whiz bang gizmos and gadgets that power education innovation

We’ll be reporting on what we learn all week and for a long time to come. But in the meantime, we want to offer a little bit of deliciousness to all of the deserving educators headed to our damp town this week: you guessed it, our spicy guide to the best taco stops!

How We Picked Our Spots

We pulled data from online food truck guides, Yelp, and suggestions from tastemakers (pun entirely intended) like Paul Qui. We focused mostly on trucks and restaurants within walking distance of the main SXSWedu events (which you’ll also find on the map), but we couldn’t resist adding in top spots in East and South Austin, which we believe to be well worth the bus or Uber ride.

(Use this link to the guide for quick reference).

So, How Should You Use This Guide?

  • Be a Lone Star: Use the map on your lonesome to grab tacos as your schedule allows while you’re in town for SXSW (particularly SXSWedu)
  • Get Social: Follow #SXTacoClub on Twitter to join forces with other attendees and chow down on tacos together
  • Document the Deliciousness: Upload Twitter pics of your tacos and/or yourself chowing down on said tacos and tag them with #SXTacoClub, #SXSWedu. Tag them with @Edudemic, too, and we’ll make sure to reshare far and wide.
  • Let Us Know Your Faves: After you’ve sampled a few, tweet out the name of your favorite tacos and stands you’ve tried, again tagging it with #SXTacoClub.
  • Tell Us Your Secrets: Did we miss any top spots? Put down the siracha sauce spray gun and let us know in the comments. We’ll get it up on the map pronto!

Okay, SXSWedu taco aficionados: you have your mission. Check back with Edudemic for updates on the conference, and to this page in particular for taco picks from the biggest movers and shakers in the world of education. Go!

This is great! We’ll be in Austin at SXSWedu and will definitely leverage the taco roundup you’ve created! Thanks. We’ve also compiled a list of top things to do in Austin for SXSWedu:
