Many readers of Edudemic are using Schoology and GoAnimate. I know because we’ve gotten plenty of comments and recommendations about these two great tools over the past few years. But as of today, they’re now working together to make Schoology’s learning management system even better.
This is not a promotional post or anything like that. I just know that Schoology is a tried-and-tested platform and GoAnimate is wildly popular among K-12 educators. Therefore, the ability to make your Schoology platform more engaging and better for things like Project-Based-Learning is good news.
In case you aren’t yet aware of the two tools, here’s a rundown. Schoology is almost like a private Facebook for your classroom or organization. It’s robust and cloud-based. Worth checking out. GoAnimate lets students (and anyone else, hint hint teachers) create high-def animated videos that are easy to embed and use in presentations, lessons, and now Schoology.
Both these tools are worth checking out on their own if you’re not in need of the pair together. Here’s a bit more info courtesy of a handy press release you will likely not read!
NEW YORK – Oct. 22, 2012 – Schoology, the leading cloud-based, collaborative learning platform for K-20 classrooms, today announced that GoAnimate is now available in the Schoology App Center. The fastest and easiest way to make an HD-quality animated video, GoAnimate is a welcomed addition to the Schoology App Center, enabling teachers and students to create video lessons, presentations and materials for flipped classrooms, resulting in better learning, engagement and collaboration.
GoAnimate partnered with Schoology to reach educators most likely to support their lessons with a presentation or video. The Schoology open developer platform and public Application Programming Interface (API) enables GoAnimate to interact with, and extend the features and functionality found in Schoology. This provides a powerful and integrated experience for more than one million instructors, students and administrators that use Schoology to connect and collaborate every day.
“Schoology’s fantastic reputation in the education market and its user-friendly API and well-documented developer platform was an ideal technology partner for us,” said Gary Lipkowitz, Chief Operating Officer at GoAnimate. “Educators value the intuitive user interface, flexibility and scalability of Schoology’s platform. We wanted to be there to provide dynamic and flexible video creation tools that are fully integrated with Schoology’s capabilities bringing value directly to teachers when and where they need it.”
Educators use GoAnimate videos as exciting and engaging lesson introductions or presentations. The application’s ability to capture students’ attention has made it a favorite tool for flipped classroom environments. Students appreciate GoAnimate’s ability to create assigned videos that augment or replace written reports – in addition to creating student-to-student tutorials. GoAnimate videos have also proven to be a powerful teaching aid for educators addressing students with special needs or those that require language training.
GoAnimate on Schoology includes safety and security features for users, ensuring only school-approved content is available to students and that external parties are unable to access or engage with student workgroups. The app’s lock-in security feature ensures that videos cannot publish on external networks and limits student video publishing to their assigned Schoology group.
“Schoology is committed to providing access to the best-of-breed applications for education and making them directly accessible within the Schoology App Center,” said Bill Kindler, Executive Vice President of Schoology. “GoAnimate is the world’s #1 do-it-yourself animated video website and we are proud to announce that GoAnimate is now available on our App Center. With this new app, Schoology users can create video masterpieces quickly and easily, within the safe, secure and familiar Schoology environment.”
GoAnimate joins popular third-party applications including Blackboard Collaborate™, Turnitin®, BrainNook, Scootpad and Remind101 available today in the Schoology App Center.
