I’m fascinated with the brain. I love how baffled scientists are still to this day about how it works. Despite everything it does for us, we still have barely figured out how it actually works. When we talk about educating students, we’re talking about affecting their brain. When we talk about anything for that matter, it involves the brain.
That’s why I love (and wanted to share) a talk by renowned psychiatrist and writer Iain McGilchrist who explains how our ‘divided brain’ has profoundly altered human behavior, culture and society. The just-released animation below was done by RSA using the audio from a lecture given by Iain McGilchrist as part of the RSA’s free public events program.
McGilchrist details how our brains are ‘divided brains’ and why they aren’t actually functioning like we originally thought (pun intended). Best of all, he describes two of the most prevalent types of a divided brain: an intuitive mind and a rational mind. I was transfixed by this animation and hope you enjoy it as well.
