11 Free Online Courses For Teachers (PD Opportunity)

Summertime is a great time for teachers to recharge their batteries a bit. After spending the entire school year encouraging students to learn, some rest is definitely in order. Beyond the quiet of spending time away from a boatload of students, it is a great time for teachers to fit in some professional development. Spending time away from the classroom (as the teacher) often allows you to immerse yourself in your own learning a bit more than if you had 100 different classroom tasks waiting for you on your to-do list.

We’ve compiled a short list of some great MOOCs for teachers that can help you kickstart your own learning this summer (even if you’re pretty sure that your students are off at the beach/camp/sitting in front of the television or playing video games 24/7). These are all geared specifically towards educators and issues in education, and while some are specific, most can be applicable to teachers for a wide array of age groups and subjects.

If you’ve taken a MOOC for educators that you think is great but isn’t on this list, please let us know! Tell us all about it by leaving a comment below, mentioning @Edudemic on Twitter or leaving your thoughts on our Facebook page.

Thank you, what a great list! I do have three which I would add to the list – all of which I completed and find super useful:
#k12blendedlearning #ksuitecMOOC – second instance may start in January by KSU, through Coursera, 2-5 weeks – PLUs for Georgia educators.
#eTeacherTOOL – self-paced, but I took it over months -openteachertraining.org/ – all about online teaching.
#BlendKit2014 – 6 weeks long – more Blended Learning from UCF and EDUCAUSE through CanvasNetwork.

“5 Habits of Highly Creative Teachers” began in May and registration is closed. I’m not sure why you are including it in a June 21 listing?
