The Making Of The Edudemic iPad Magazine

The following is an excerpt from the upcoming March issue of the Edudemic Magazine (iTunes Link). It goes on sale in the Edudemic iPad app at the end of next week (whenever Apple approves it). The issue is our largest (70+ pages) and most in-depth yet. We’re working hard to enhance every feature of the Edudemic Magazine and this is just a quick look at one of the many articles in the upcoming issue.

Part One: A Memoir

I love education technology. It’s my obsession. The announcement of the Apple iPad was a pivotal moment not only for education technology but also for me.

I knew that the device was going to play a critical role in classrooms around the world and that it would set the tone for the future uses of technology in learning.

That was two years ago.

Since then, I’ve been itching to find a way to incorporate the iPad into Edudemic. Simply creating an app or a mobile-friendly website was just not enough.

After all, isn’t the iPad meant to simply display the entire web as it’s supposed to be? Why reinvent the wheel to display the same content?

I wasn’t sure when I would be able to leverage the iPad for Edudemic until I attended Adobe MAX. As part of the digital goodie-bag, attendees were given a license to use their new Digital Publishing Suite (DPS).

After seeing what DPS could do on a giant 50-foot high screen, it hit me. This was the platform I had been waiting for.
