How To Keep Students Focused During Exams

It’s the end of the year and that means many of you, teachers and students alike, are knee-deep into an exam period. What are some of the best ways to stay focused during exams? Would it be to load up on Red Bull and keep the coffee dripping? What about a different tactic?

One teacher had the idea to cover up the clock and try to take a new approach to keeping students focused during finals. The English teacher put a sign over the classroom clock saying “time is passing. are you?” and I’m sure the students truly appreciated it…

Would you put something like this up? Personally, I feel like I used the clock in the classroom as a means to measure my progress on an exam, to set aside a certain amount of time, and to basically keep myself on track so I wouldn’t miss out on having enough time for a particular section of the exam. Ever began to write the final essay for an exam only to have a teacher tell you time is up? That’s never good.
