There are countless education technology startups. The ol’ Edudemic email inbox is flooded on a daily basis with people looking for coverage, connections, and other requests. But we got an email earlier today from the folks over at edmix who are hosting PitchFest, an opportunity for any edtech startup to pitch their idea to a room full of teachers, industry supporters, judges, and basically all the people you’ll need to reach to be successful.
PitchFest is taking place on February 1st in London as part of the BETT Show which takes place January 30 – February 2. Before you book that air travel, you’ll have to apply. That involves uploading a business summary (more info below in the press release along with a sample PDF template to use) and crossing your fingers.
If you’ve got a concept, early-stage product / service, or are a full-fledged company looking for some European expansion, PitchFest is worth checking out. We’re working on seeing if we can make it over there for the event so hopefully we’ll see you there!
edmix is proud to announce Europe’s largest edtech pitching competition, with a staggering prize-pot worth more than £15,000 (in-kind value & support!).
edmix and our fantastic industry partners want to hear from the world’s hottest edtech start-ups: with 15x short-listed companies invited to pitch their business to a fantastic panel of judges, live on Friday night at the BETT ‘Startup Pavilion’!
Your Start-up, Business or EdTech idea
edmix wants to hear from standout edtech businesses and education innovations: great companies and ideas across the learning-ladder (tech ideas for Pre-School, Primary, Secondary, HE, Further Education, etc) any subject focus – and of course any technology (browser-based to iOS)!
We want to hear from all sizes and types of companies: individual hackers, academics and educators with fresh innovations, boot-strapped start-ups, seed-backed companies as well as established businesses with new exciting new approaches.
Thanks to our fantastic industry supporters, edmix is able to offer the standout business idea a truly awesome winners package!
The company voted first place by the judges at the end of the PitchFest (announcements will be made after the pitches, once the ‘edmix After Party’ has begun upstairs in the Platinum Suite!).
- Six months free central London desk space for four people, at Pearson’s HQ! Package includes broadband, breakout spaces, meeting rooms and the chance to build business relationships with key industry professionals!
- Quarterly Mentorship – from Leaf Invstments and Pearson – providing quarterly business plan reviews, and regular real-world support and steerage on engaging education investors.
All ideas and stages of businesses are welcome to enter: whether your edtech idea is at the concept stage, or you are an early stage start-up, or even an established business - we welcome all innovations and every submission has the same chance.
There are two key dates to consider:
Submission Deadline: 28th Jan 2013 – 9pm.
- You have until 27th Jan to create an upload a 1x page doc (PDF guide below) that details your business idea. Try to get your submission in as early as possible – don’t join the last minute rush of entries. Submissions after this date will be excluded.
Short-list Notification: 30th Jan 2013
- If your idea makes the short-list – whoop! – congratulations you have made it to the final round, and the edmix / BETT pitching competition a few days later (4pm – 6pm, 1st Feb ‘13).
If you’ve been successful, the edmix team will phone you that day (29th) to let you know!
One or two members of your team will have five minutes to pitch your idea/business to five industry experts, and then answer 2-3 minutes of questions.
