Gmail is a curious beast. It seems to occupy this odd limbo where it saves me a ton of time … but it also occupies a lot of my time. So does it save me time or is it slowly eating away at my day-to-day activities? I’m not sure.
But I do know that I rely on Gmail every day and it’s one of the most important web tools in my arsenal. The mobile app is great and the web version is as close to perfect as I could find. But this isn’t some ad for Gmail. I’m pretty sure the Google folks are doing just fine in terms of market penetration with Gmail.
This is about helping you save time while on Gmail. I recently stumbled across all the Gmail shortcuts while literally fat-fingering the keyboard. A popup appeared on the screen and I wanted to share it with everyone who might not have known all these shortcuts existed. It’s crazy. This is the official list of shortcuts and it may change as Google adds and removes features (Google Reader anyone? Google Wave?) over time. In any case, this is the most current list available and should be an eye-opening sight for some.
I’d strongly recommend downloading this image (below) and printing out the list on front and back of a sheet of paper. Laminate that. Share it with your classroom and colleagues. It might just save you several minutes of your life every day!
That’s a lot of spare time to, well, eat some ice cream or take a cat nap. Whatever you do with your newfound time, don’t forget to share your new skills!
