How The Workforce is Changing

Often victim to over-generalizations and stereotypes, truly understanding generational differences is rare.

Part of the issue may be that any inferences drawn easily devolve into said over-generalizations. But survey data to help understand what is and what is coming can provide interesting insights.

In the following infographic from the Online MBA Program at the University of North Carolina, information regarding “Generation Y” (or the “millennials”) is given to better guess how the workforce might be changing.

  • By 2014, over 1/3 of the workforce will be millennials (i.e., born between 1976 and 2001).
  • By 2020? Almost half.
  • Millennials switch their attention between devices 27 times per hour, up from 17 times from previous generations
  • Diversity is also on the upswing, with just under 60% of millennials white, compared to 72.5% in previous generations, and Hispanics increasing the most, from 12% to 18.5%.

The world is changing, yes?

I absolutely LOVE your graphic poster type visuals. Is there a way to purchase them without having to go through figuring how to capture and print!

    Not a millennial :)

Hey Helen, you don’t need to purchase any infographics. I’d recommend you right click — save as — and then use them however you see fit. Does that make sense?
