If you’re a lover all things open source AND graphic design, you’re going to love this bit of news. GIMP, the open source photo editor, is now available for your mac as a native app. GIMP has been available for Macs for quite awhile but needed a separate (highly technical) and difficult installation to actually get it up and running. I stuck with Adobe Photoshop simply because it was actually easy to install!
This is actually some big news for schools on a budget. GIMP is free, robust, and now easy to install on your Mac. On a related note (and shameless plug), I should note that we feature ways to deploy awesome technology on a shoestring budget for your classroom in the upcoming September issue of the Edudemic Magazine. Complete with interviews with teachers who actually do amazing tech stuff with the very few resources they have.
Just a note, you’ll need GIMP version 2.8.2 (download it here) to install and run on your Mac.
