We’ve talked about virtual field trips and connecting with other schools online many times. But what about actually seeing how your classroom stacks up to the others around the world? Julian Germain has been doing just that. He has photographed classrooms from England to the US to Nigeria to Bangladesh to Qatar. You get the idea. Below is a small sampling of his pictures and be sure to check out his website for more information / how to order the pictures as a bound book, etc.

Julian is currently working with the British Council and other organizations on a global project about education scheduled to be a major exhibition and publication in 2012. He is also planning to publish and exhibit photographs made by Brazilian street children over the last 16 years. He lives and works in Northumberland, UK.

This is interesting. I’ll definitely have to show it to my fellow co-workers.

Liked the pics are they typical of classrooms or just select?? A few ethnic groups wereisding from the US pic. I work in a district in Mn and we are more diverse than your picture shows.

Thought the pictures were great a good spread of countries. Dismayed that no one seemed to be smiling really. Maybe they were told not to do so? Also I was very disheartened to see not one bit of technology in any classroom except the rural England one where there was a projector in the ceiling. Also the way the desks were arranged in a lot of the photos reflects a typical Victorian style shame to see this reflected across the globe.

Interesting photos. But school looks painful for all the students – no one looks happy. Rural England students do not really dress like that must be dress up day. Are any of the others dress up day? Liked the dog included in Taiwan. One is left with a sadness after looking at these photos. School should be a great place to be!
