I used to think I was a pretty good reader. In fact, I assumed I was one of the faster readers among my peers. Then I took this test and am ashamed to admit that I’m not as good as I thought. While I apparently scored ’108% faster than the national average,’ I had assumed I’d be faster.
Staples just released an addicting app that lets you see how fast you read and then shows you where you stack up against national averages. The app then tells you how fast it would take you to read lengthy books like War and Peace and Lord of the Rings at the speed you read the first page. Then it tells you how many books on an e-reader you could read before having to recharge.
It’s wildly fun and could be a great exercise for any classroom. It would give real-world feedback and potentially inspire students to crack open a book more often.
Where do you stack up? Let everyone know by taking the test and sharing it on the Edudemic Facebook page! I look forward to seeing your results. [H/T to @adriasaracino for this!]
